A new dog grooming salon opened in Port Hill earlier this week, offering not only haircuts for hounds but also bathing, blow-drying, nail clipping and other grooming needs. Stacey John, 33, opened VIPups and Pooches on the High Street on Monday, December 11, making her childhood dream come true.
The Wellington woman has 10 years' experience in dog grooming and qualified at Four Paws Grooming School 10 years ago. There is no set price list as prices vary by breed, size and coat type. That's why Stacey offers every customer a personalized quote.
Stacy, who owns a golden retriever named Indiana, said: I love dogs, so it was my childhood dream to work with them.

“I knew I wanted to do this when I was training at Four Paws Grooming School, but I didn’t have the confidence to start my own business at the time. I chose Porthill as the place to open my salon. Because I have a lot of family at the end of the street and have known this high street for most of my life.
“My business hours change every two weeks. The first week I'm open Monday through Friday, and the next week I'll be open Tuesday through Saturday. I'll continue to do this alternating every other week.”
Salon hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Stacey has staggered business days, so you should make an appointment at the salon to avoid disappointment.
