If you plan to give these (or any other) treats to a dog that is not yours, be sure to check with the owner to make sure the dog does not have any food allergies. If you want the gift to be a surprise, simply attach a note listing the ingredients to the treats so the owner can check for themselves.
Dog Treats Recipe for Christmas
Personally, I like to make some of these treats, put them in cute Christmas tins, and take them to Christmas parties where I know the hosts are dog owners.
You should keep the treats small so they can be used on any size dog. I like to use a fun mini dog cookie cutter to get treats that are the same size and shape consistently.
I will also include a copy of the recipe with these treats. This is not only so the homeowners I gift this to can make it themselves later, but also so they can see all the ingredients.
Recipe: Dog Treats for Christmas
I use whole wheat flour in my recipe, but if your dog has allergies, you can use coconut flour, almond flour, chickpea flour, or quinoa flour.
You can also replace the applesauce with canned pumpkin or mashed banana.
You may think raw honey has too much sugar, but the small amount in this recipe won't be a problem for your dog. It also offers numerous health benefits that are worth the small amount of added sugar.

- 1 ⅛ cup whole wheat flour with yeast
- ⅛ cup oatmeal
- ½ cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 tablespoon Honey
- 1/2 cup coba
- ⅙ cup water
Icing and decorations
- ¼ low fat greek yogurt
- ½ teaspoon Honey
- Dried cranberries
Preheat your oven to 375˚F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
In a bowl, combine flour and oats. In a separate container, Mix peanut butter, honey, applesauce and water.
Add both mixtures and mix until a firm dough forms. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface until it is about 1/4″ thick.
Cut the dough with cookie cutters and place these Christmas dog treats on the parchment paper-lined baking sheet. You can also use a pizza cutter or butter knife to cut the dough into small pieces.
Bake the treats for 15 to 18 minutes until they begin to brown. Let them cool completely before decorating.
If you wish, you can put icing on the cookies. Drizzle icing over cookies or use icing to draw designs.
To make the glaze, combine the yogurt and honey in a bowl. Use a small piping bag or plastic bag to store, like I do in the video above.
I simply cut a small piece from one corner of the bag and use it as a DIY piping bag. As you can see in my photos, I use dried cranberries to decorate the cookies after I frosted them.

How to store: Store leftover Christmas dog treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 12 to 14 days. Remember that homemade treats do not have the preservatives that store-bought products do.
