What is the National Dog Show?

The National Dog Show is one of the most famous dog shows in the world. This show, sponsored by the Philadelphia Kennel Club, was founded in 1879 and has been held annually since 1933. NDS is recognized by the American Kennel Club and only purebred dogs registered with the AKC may compete. The AKC recognizes 212 dog breeds and breeds, which he divides into seven different groups.

NBC has televised the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade post-parade event since 2002. John O'Hurley and David Fry, who have co-hosted the National Dog Show since it first aired, will return to host the show. How does the National Dog Show work?

The American Kennel Club recognizes 212 dog breeds and breeds (although not all dogs are shown at the National Dog Show in some years). The first round of the National Dog Show pits dogs of the same breed against each other based on how well they fit the breed standard. The winner, named “Best in Breed,” will go on to represent the breed at the next level, the group. The American Kennel Club classifies all dog breeds into seven groups: Sporting, Hound, Working, Terrier, Toy, Non-Sporting, and Herding. At the group level, dogs are not evaluated against each other, but by how well they fit the breed standard. The winners of each group, named “First in Breed,” will compete in the final round for the coveted Best in Show.

Who won the 2022 National Dog Show?

Last year, French bulldog Winston beat out more than 1,500 dogs representing 212 breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club to win Best in Show, becoming the first French bulldog in history to win the competition.

The French Bulldog, with its large ears and uniform personality, is one of the most popular small dog breeds in the world. Frenchies don't bark much, but they are alert and make excellent guard dogs. They happily adapt to living with a family of any size and do not require a great deal of outdoor exercise. They enjoy getting along with other animals and making new human friends.
