Ms Sebewine hopes for community support to win PetSafe grant for new dog

by Bella Woof

With the help of votes and grants, Sebewijn is once again trying to establish a dog park in the village.

The Village of Sebewain continues to look for ways to fund a planned dog park using the PetSafe Unleashed grant. To celebrate Petsafe's 25th anniversary as the world's leading pet brand, the company is holding a national contest where one lucky community will win a dog park.

Last year, Sebewijn was selected along with 24 other cities across the country to compete for PetSafe's “Bark for your Park” grant. The grants were awarded to the top four cities that received the most votes in a community vote. Although Sebewein managed to beat out cities such as Houston, Texas and Maryville, Missouri, he fell just short and missed out on the award.

Sebewain Dog Park Director Jeff Parsons said the support and vote for the dog park was overwhelming and he is encouraged to continue searching for funding to allow the village to enjoy new recreational activities. He said the dog park will continue the excitement of downtown revitalization, help draw more people to the area, and provide more opportunities for businesses as well.

Currently, the closest dog runs for Sebewijn residents are in Cass City or Bay City. The park will be built in the space occupied by the former LMS stamping factory at the corner of Union and Albert Streets in downtown Sebewijn. The village is considering holding community dog events that involve dogs and their families, including generating income to supplement funding from the village.

Every day from now until Nov. 30, Sevea Wing residents and other supporters of the community can vote for their village once a day on the PetSafe website. The winner of the contest will be announced on December 5th. The grand prize winner will receive a new Park Girl package valued at $50,000.
