It’s hot and humid in Utah these days, and Leia, our Portuguese Water Dog, couldn’t wait to cool down with a sip of this delicious treat. This dog ice cream is a great alternative to Frosty Paws. This homemade dog ice cream is made with just a few simple ingredients. Mashed banana, plain Greek yogurt, xylitol-free peanut butter, and bacon bits. These are all easily digestible ingredients, but if your dog can’t tolerate them, feel free to substitute them. That’s the benefit of making dog treats at home. - banana: Make sure to use ripe bananas so they are easier to mash.
- Plain Greek yogurt: Be sure to use plain Greek yogurt, as dogs have difficulty digesting sugar and artificial flavors. The probiotics found in Greek yogurt are great for puppies and are also a great source of protein.
- Natural peanut butter: Make sure you use natural peanut butter. Xylitol free. Xylitol is a sugar alcohol found in many foods, but it is toxic to dogs.
- Crispy bacon pieces: I like to crush these and add them on top of ice cream. My dog always loves something tasty with a little extra meat.

- Mashed banana: Mash the bananas in a large bowl using a fork.
- Yogurt and peanut butter mixture: Add yogurt and peanut butter and mix until combined.
- Add to bread pan: Transfer to a metal loaf pan and sprinkle bacon on top.
- Freezing: Cover and freeze for at least 4 hours before serving.

- Add various toppings: You can also modify this recipe to add your dog’s favorite treats. Mash up strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries, or top with crushed dog biscuits or jerky snacks.
- Use peanut butter instead of pumpkin. Replace 1 cup of pumpkin puree with peanut butter. Pumpkin is a great treat for dogs and aids in digestion. Make sure you use pure pumpkin puree and no artificial sweeteners added.
